Online Fruit Shop Start-Up Opens In Silicon Beach

Screen Shot 2013-05-07 at 3.16.36 PMAn unusual online business goes online in the next few weeks, based out of Santa Monica. Fruit is not the first product you’d be expect to be sold online, but that’s exactly what the Frutistore is doing.

Now we know what you’re thinking, wont the fruit go-off during deliver? will it get damaged en route? and why wouldn’t i just go to the local grocery store.

Well Fruti Fruit’s patent pending processes ensure the fruit is as nutritious and tasty as the day it was picked and offers an an incredible 30 day shelf life! You can do away with the mess and waste associated with buying fruits like Mangos and Pineapples. The fruit comes ready to eat in packaging so easy a child could open it. This looks like a sure fire winner for mums who can easily pack healthy snacks into their child’s lunchbox.

Take a peek at their website and let us have any comment or thoughts about this interesting idea.

Infosec Company Looks To Protect Silicon Beach Start-ups

The job title ‘entrepreneur’ seems to have become all to frequent in 2012 and the rise of the start-up is undeniable in the West side of Los Angeles. Another undeniable trend of this year seems to be the unstoppable hacks and data-leaks from corporate and government environments by hacktivists groups such as anonymous.

This week saw GoDaddy have major service issues after a hacker claimed to have caused denial of service conditions on their network. Huge amounts of sites were effected, possibly millions. Also this week some Pinterest users appeared to have had their accounts compromised and which lead to them spamming Facebook and Twitter with advertising images.

Information security often takes a back seat when start-ups push to roll out new products and services potentially leaving them open to data loss and down time from internet attacks. Security is in most cases an after thought once the product has been launched and the dust has settled.

A newly founded Los Angeles Start-up Tiro Security, based out of Santa Monica aims to educate and assist the start-up community on how best to protect their data and ensure security isn’t overlooked in the rush to launch products.

Tirosec was founded by a seasoned infosec expert and a staffing specialist with 14 years of experience to bring the very best information security skills to the companies of silicon beach. A free security primer is available on request which summarize the issues start-ups should be considering when trying to protect their data.

Mobile Payment Start-up Kuapay Pulls in $4 Million Investment

Local Silicon Beach start-up Kuapay has just secured a $4 million investment from a single private investor. The new funding comes from a private investor from the Chilean technology sector. According to inside sources, the investment will be put to use to fund the company’s aggressive global expansion plans.

Kuapay was founded by Joaquin Ayuso de Paul, a Spanish entrepreneur who sold his social network Tuenti to Telefonica for a clean $100 million.

Kuapay is an e-wallet application that includes customer loyalty programs. The app has a huge emphasis on safety. Its use is simple: cashiers just have to scan the QR code on the phone.

For those of you that missed it, Joaquin presented Kuapay’s mobile app technology during Silicon Beach Start-Ups App Demo Day in May.

Kuapay is based in Santa Monica, and 40 local merchants participate. There’s more to come: the company just signed a deal with the Southern California KFC franchise, which includes 100 locations.

Outside of the US Kuapay has offices in Chile and Spain, where it runs trials, as well as in Panama, Columbia, and the U.K. Kuapay plans to open offices in New York, Madrid and Hong Kong. From its product should concur worldwide markets, include Brazil, Canada, and China.
