This week saw GoDaddy have major service issues after a hacker claimed to have caused denial of service conditions on their network. Huge amounts of sites were effected, possibly millions. Also this week some Pinterest users appeared to have had their accounts compromised and which lead to them spamming Facebook and Twitter with advertising images.

Information security often takes a back seat when start-ups push to roll out new products and services potentially leaving them open to data loss and down time from internet attacks. Security is in most cases an after thought once the product has been launched and the dust has settled.

A newly founded Los Angeles Start-up Tiro Security, based out of Santa Monica aims to educate and assist the start-up community on how best to protect their data and ensure security isn’t overlooked in the rush to launch products.

Tirosec was founded by a seasoned infosec expert and a staffing specialist with 14 years of experience to bring the very best information security skills to the companies of silicon beach. A free security primer is available on request which summarize the issues start-ups should be considering when trying to protect their data.

Kuapay was founded by Joaquin Ayuso de Paul, a Spanish entrepreneur who sold his social network Tuenti to Telefonica for a clean $100 million.

Kuapay is an e-wallet application that includes customer loyalty programs. The app has a huge emphasis on safety. Its use is simple: cashiers just have to scan the QR code on the phone.

For those of you that missed it, Joaquin presented Kuapay’s mobile app technology during Silicon Beach Start-Ups App Demo Day in May.

Kuapay is based in Santa Monica, and 40 local merchants participate. There’s more to come: the company just signed a deal with the Southern California KFC franchise, which includes 100 locations.

Outside of the US Kuapay has offices in Chile and Spain, where it runs trials, as well as in Panama, Columbia, and the U.K. Kuapay plans to open offices in New York, Madrid and Hong Kong. From its product should concur worldwide markets, include Brazil, Canada, and China.

Silicon Beach Fest is created by Digital LA, Los Angeles’ largest networking group, presented by engage:BDR, and organized with LA companies including technology incubators / accelerators StartEngine, Amplify, and LaunchPad, social media marketing platform PromoJam, and LA’s tech news organization TechZulu.

Amongst the attendees and speakers you will find invited celebs, start-ups, VC’s, film and music industry executives, social media gurus, and developers, Silicon Valley, Orange County, New York and other places within the US and international.

Speakers include Jason Nazar (DocStoc), Howard Marks (StartEngine), Ken Chung (Viddy), Lindsay Gabler (The GRAMMYs), Ana Liza Bella (NBCUniversal / STYLE), and Darren Rush (Pose). Some of the topics that will be covered are legal tips for start-ups, press in Silicon Beach, meet and greet with VC’s, and branding. Through challenges, CrowdsEye will amass a database of fan-generated content organized by hashtags, date, location, and popularity. Goal is to become a home base for fans, a social network not divided along the lines of traditional relationships, but instead brought together by the communal experience of attending a live event.
